Freshly caught Snoek Galore

To experience the working harbour in Gansbaai is a great way to spend the day.

The working Gansbaai Harbour is a must visit especially if you have children, they will love seeing where fish come from, hearing the stories the fishermen tell and just being a part of the hustle and bustle in the Harbour.

Driving from Hermanus to Gansbaai we spotted numerous fishing boats bobbing in the ocean on the horizon indicating that the fishing must be good. We ventured along the cliffs at De Kelders and saw the boats heading back to the harbour.

Excited to see what the catch of the day was we drove to the Gansbaai Harbour to meet the fishermen arriving with their bounty. The catch of the day was indeed Snoek, a very popular fish in the Western Cape.

As the Fishermen started gutting their catch the bargaining started, locals as well as visitors from all over waited in anticipation to buy their freshly caught and filleted “Line Fish” – ready for a good  evening braai with family and friends.
