Pedal power road trip

Onno and Sonja Van Dyk, a lovely (and fit) couple from the Netherlands, are on a 5 week cycling tour of the Western Cape.

Mountain View Manor had the pleasure of hosting Onno and Sonja for 2 nights of the Sandbaai / Hermanus leg of their exciting journey of the Southern Western Cape. Each year Nono and Sonja pick a country to undertake a cycle tour, and this year they chose South Africa for their pedal power holiday.

They started their journey in Cape Town visiting the Cape Peninsular and then headed out on the scenic R43 past Gordons Bay, Rooi Els, Betty’s Bay and will from today be heading up the coast going to Elim, Cape Aghulus, Wellington, Wilderness, George, Knysna, Plett, and ending their journey with a 3 day stay in the Addo Elephant Park. They fly back to the Netherlands from Port Elizabeth in the middle of January.

Charlise and I were chatting and we reckon that it must be quite a different travel experience going by bicycle on a road trip – as one will enjoy the smells, sounds and sights along the way, which is so different to speeding by in a car.

We wish Nono and Sonja a safe journey for the rest of their trip and the journey home.
