The scenic Rotary Way Drive a favourite thing to do
The Rotary Way drive is definitely a must when visiting Hermanus, we always recommend that our guests take a drive up the mountain to experience the spectacular views of Walker Bay and the surrounding Overberg.
There are loads of lookout points from which to take in the breath-taking views of the surroundings. The first lookout point is at the radio relay station where you look down onto of Hermanus, and the surrounding suburbs. On a clear day you can see as far as Cape Hangklip which is the point at Pringle Bay.
As you take a leisurely drive’s up to the next lookout point, you will catch glimpses of the beautiful magestic curves of Mount Babylon and the Hemel-en-Aarde wine valley where you can see the vineyards of the famous Hamilton Russell Wine Estate, Newton Johnson and La Vierge always a stunning view all year round.
At the end of the tarred road, you have a bird’s eye view of Hermanus Village, Hermanus Golf course, as well as vistas of the Klein Rivier Valley, Stanford, the Klein Rivier Lagoon, De Kelders, Birkenhead and Danger Point Lighthouse in the distance across Walker Bay (Gansbaai area).
We have taken amazing sunset photo's as well as video's. You can be even see whales in the bay during whale season. There are great walking trails stretching about 4 kilometres along the top of the Klein Rivier mountain range, this is also a popular launch site for paragliders (awesome to watch them launch off the mountain) for bird lovers, mountain bikers and there are perfect spots for a romantic picnic.
Take your smartphone or camera, and a jacket, something to eat and drink and please be kind to our environment and be sure that when you leave, all you leave are only your footprints.
