The thirsty traveller
Explore the Hermanus Wine Route R320, which starts in Sandbaai and meanders along a 20km scenic drive, offering 16 wine producers’ individual premium quality wines which include some of the country’s finest Pinot noirs, Chardonnays and Sauvignon blancs, and some unique red blends on offer.
The photographer will enjoy the many aspects of photography opportunities on offer. The list is endless and each season brings a new opportunity to point and shoot! The adventure traveller
The adventure traveller will have all their needs met with some of the best land and sea adventure activities available in close proximity and we also offer a drop off and pick up service. Activities include sea kayaking, yachting, whale watching, diving, snorkeling, angling, fly fishing, horse riding, quad biking, mountain biking, tree top sliding, zip-lining, abseiling, paragliding to mention a few. Further afield one can enjoy shark cage diving, white water rafting, tubing, sand boarding.
The eco traveller
The eco traveller enters a world of wonder as the area boasts with many nature reserves both land and marine which can be explored on foot hiking through the natural wonders, exploring the beaches or enjoy the magical scenery on a day trip, or even go diving to view the many reefs.
The Day tripper
The Day tripper can use the Manor as an ideal base and travel to close by towns and attractions to meet your interests. Let us prepare your picnic basket for your outing.
The beach lover
The beach lover is only 300m away from the best beaches in the area – Sandbaai and Onrus which is ideal for angling, sun bathing either on the main beach or at the more secluded coves, family beach fun, walks, and a must is exploring the sea shore as Sandbaai has some of the best sea shell viewing and collecting spots.
The bird watcher
The bird watcher is in a paradise with more than 200 record sightings of various endemic and migrant birds. Starting right next to the Manor, or a walk to the Onrus Lagoon (a WWF site) at dusk or sunrise will enthrall the avid birdwatcher or photographer.
Close by is the famous Fernkloof Nature Reserve, Vogelgat Private Nature Reserve, Klein River and the Vermont Salt pan which hosts a wide variety of duscks, waders and the greater flamingo. Full day trips allows one not only to enjoy the scenery, but explore further afield hotspots such as the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens, Stony Point Penguin colony, Rooi Els, Swart River Road, Botriviervlei which is the largest lagoon in the greater area which is the best place to find the Greater Flamingo, Eastern White Pelican, African Spoonbill, and the African Fish Eagle.
The lighthouse enthusiast
The lighthouse enthusiast, like Geoff and Charlise, will love to visit the lighthouses situated on the coastline in the area.
The antique or collectable traveller
The antique or collectable traveller will find that special item when exploring the many shops, dealers, galleries, or 2nd areas.
The artist or art lover
The artist or art lover will enjoy the opportunity to either explore the many galleries (many of SA’s top artists stay in the greater Hermanus area), or to paint the various scenes available. Keep a look out for our art courses planned for 2014.
Festivals and sporting events
The greater Hermanus area boasts with some unique festivals throughout the year, with the world famous Whale Festival taking place in September. Other festivals include flowers, art, cultural, Marine, Wine and Food, Hawston Sea festival, birding, to mention a few. There are some key sporting events throughout the year which include Mt. biking, mountain trail runs, open water swimming. A variety of markets are also on offer ranging from crafts, curios, art, wines, flowers and of course delicious food and preserves.
